Just when we think the financial crisis can’t get any worse, we find the ASX has dropped again, the Aussie dollar is in the toilet after almost reaching parity with the greenback this year, and markets around the world are diving.

Concerns about our financial future are justified. The US is in recession, banks thought to be safe are failing and with less disposable income, consumerism is dropping. While great news for the environment, the reduction in spending will mean reduced tax revenue and perhaps budgetary rethinks.

With governments using taxpayer funds to bail out banks and other institutions left and right, what could it all mean for promised climate change initiatives?
